How to get the ‘splits’!

Now, we all want them. It feels like some dancer rite of passage, however it’s not all sunshine

and lollipops; that is for sure.

There are thousands of articles and YouTube videos on the internet to answer this question.

So, I’m not going to go into any depth. However, as a Dance Smarter expert I guess I have a few points to mention.

Getting the splits comes down to; consistency of stretching in the younger years- see article

I/30.

In full time training, it comes down to balancing the amount of strength training you doing vs stretching. The glutes and quads take a beating when you start training full time and balancing that with an adequate amount of stretching is hard!

Adding a yoga class to your schedule is like gold dust. The flexibility of the back is underestimated in splits, for sure, especially hamstring flexibility.

And finally, if your out of full time training, imbalance is limiting you to your best flexibility.

Perhaps you do the same twist a in a show your in eight times a week; your psoas is limiting you splits. Perhaps you do the same leg + lift in the west end show you in that is limiting your right quad, or simply you lift your toddler on the same side; that is twisting yourhips and limiting you hip flexor flexibility.

Eithwe way head to an- osteo or a pilates specialist. Therea usually way more to getting you "splits" than pure flexibility.

Or purchase Samuel’s Little Book of Stretches you won’t be disappointed!
