Remember it's alright not to want something just because everyone else has it.

The best industry in the world. The hardest industry in the world. The dance industry is an oxymoron from start to finish, but should you be lucky enough to be part of it, it's likely your never going to have a day in your life the same, you’ll experience the craziest of adventures and be surrounded by some of the most varied and inspiring people in the world.

But how do you get to be part of this dream. There’s a few obvious ones; working hard, turning up both in mind and body, being a person people want to be around. There’s the slightly controversial ones; you need a good physique, have style and have some allure. And then there’s the ones that we have no control over; you need be in the right place a the right time, you need to look like the vision in the producers head and trust that something is coming your way even if you can’t see it. The final three are the three that get most creatives down but if you really really want it, just like the Spice Girls quoted and spend time investing in areas of your life that make you truly happy and allow you to be authentic then something will come your way. It’s also okay, if you don’t really want it. There might be numerous reasons for this - peer pressure is one of the biggest that I have come across. Remember it's alright not to want something just because everyone else has it. I remember auditioning a lot for commercial jobs, I got a few but realistically the auditions that I look back on were my idea of hell. I wasn’t successful when it came to commercial dance work, why? Because I didn’t really want it, and looking back now, I only went to those auditions and thought I wanted to be a commercial dancer because thats what my dance friends were doing! Maybe I looked happy on the outside, but subconsciously I wasn’t being authentic to myself, the dance industry gods can sense that.

In the wise words of Amber Riley, As long as you’re being true to yourself you’ll always find happiness.

Are we getting lazier?

Are we as humans getting less committed or are we just ruled by automations that we become subconsciously more lazy? This has very little to do with dance. But it crosses over to those of us who run d

Barefoot

This isn't an article about dancing in socks, I don't really mind that in all honesty! This is about the importance of being barefoot, not just for dancers, but kids and parents too. I love summer pur
