The things we remember

Today a dance school that I work at danced in the local towns summer fair event. And in true, rubbish, UK weather it was damp, to say the least. Luckily there was a small break in the showers to perform safely but of course the drizzle began as the dancers finished.
Bleak. But you know what, the videos and photos captured are brilliant. The kids look so joyous and carefree, and whilst it was less than optimum that’s one thing they’re going to remember.
‘Do you remember the time we did the June dance day and we did Greatest Showman in the rain?’
(Do you know one thing I remember from an event like this, was a dog cocked his leg up a dancer waiting in classical pose at a garden fete!)
Everyone gets so caught up with their dancers (either as dance parents or teachers) getting to be the top level or professional that the pure reason we start dancing in the first place is forgotten.
In fact last night I said something to a bunch of teens who were having a brilliant time swishing skirts round to West Side Story.
I said.
‘Okay let’s do it one more time, and have some fun. Remember that’s what your parents originally paid me for, for you to come dancing and have fun, now it might be a bit more serious as you get into your older teens, but you know what, they still want you to have fun’
Remember that, please.
